Ord. Wk 6th,  Monday, 13th February,2017  (Mk 8:11-13)

Dear Friend in the Lord,

Doubts in Faith: In today’s Gospel, the Pharisees asked Jesus for a sign from heaven.  Do we also have doubts in our faith especially when our petitions and prayers do not seem to be answered?  God will always live in our hearts and love us totally, personally and unconditionally.  Trust in His Love and Compassionate Care.

Fr Philip Heng, S.J

The Pharisees came up and started a discussion with Jesus; they demanded of him a sign from heaven, to put him to the test.

And with a profound sigh he said, ‘Why does this generation demand a sign? In truth I tell you, no sign shall be given to this generation.’ And, leaving them again, he re-embarked and went away to the other side.

As you read the passage what words, phases or meanings caught your attention?

  • Like the Pharisees in today’s Gospel, we too often ask of God signs to re-assure our faith in Him. As though it is not enough to trust in a loving heavenly Father, we look for more assurances and at times, guarantees.

  • Jesus is the eternal Sign from God; we do not need other signs or guarantees. Through Jesus, we will never be lost and lonely.

  • Yet, how often have we failed to look to Jesus for our needs and direction in life?  Pray for a deeper faith in the Lord.
