Easter Wk 5th,  Tuesday, 16th May,2017  (Jn 14:27-31a)

Dear Friend in the Lord,

Fears of Life: In today’s Gospel, Jesus assures us, “Do not let your hearts be troubled or afraid . . . The prince of this world has no power over me.”  Let us reaffirm our faith in God who is almighty, infinitely Loving and Compassionate. Nothing and no person can harm and destroy our love for God if we continue to trust Him totally.

Fr Philip Heng, S.J

Jesus said to his disciples: ‘Peace I bequeath to you, my own peace I give you, a peace which the world cannot give, this is my gift to you. Do not let your hearts be troubled or afraid. You heard me say: I am going away and shall return. If you loved me you would be glad that I am going to the Father, for the Father is greater than I.

‘I have told you this now, before it happens, so that when it does happen you may believe. I shall not talk to you much longer, because the prince of this world is on his way. He has no power over me, but the world must recognise that I love the Father and that I act just as the Father commanded.’

TODAY'S POINTERS ON GOD'S WORD
As you read the passage what words, phases or meanings caught your attention?

  • Jesus offers His peace that dispels all fears and troubles from our hearts; this is the Peace that the secular world cannot give.  Only this “Peace” of Jesus, the Risen Lord can satisfy our deepest longings and fulfil our greatest dreams.

  • However, this “Peace” that conquers death and all forms of sin in this world and the evils of the human heart is a triumph of the Cross of Christ that we as His followers have to take up in our daily living.

  • Do you experience this “Peace of Christ” with joy in your heart and share it with the people in your daily living?  If so, thank God for the gift, if not continue to persevere in your faith and live a more Christ-like life.
