Easter Wk 5th: Friday,  Friday, 19th May,2017  (Jn 15:12-17)

Dear Friend in the Lord,

“No Greater Love”: In today’s Gospel, Jesus proclaims, “There is no greater love than to lay down his life for his friends.  I call you friends . . . go and bear fruits that will last.  My Command is that you love one another.”  Pray for God’s inspiration to live in Christ-like ways that will “bear fruits that will last” for all of eternity.

Fr Philip Heng, S.J

Jesus said to his disciples: ‘This is my commandment: love one another, as I have loved you. No one can have greater love than to lay down his life for his friends. You are my friends, if you do what I command you. I shall no longer call you servants, because a servant does not know the master's business; I call you friends, because I have made known to you everything I have learnt from my Father.

‘You did not choose me, no, I chose you; and I commissioned you to go out and to bear fruit, fruit that will last; so that the Father will give you anything you ask him in my name. My command to you is to love one another.’

As you read the passage what words, phases or meanings caught your attention?

  • Jesus’ love for His disciples is total and unconditional to the point of Him willingly lay down His life for them.

  • Jesus chose to die for the salvation of all peoples and personally for you and me.

  • Jesus wants us to share the love we received from Him with others and to allow it to bear fruit, so that the glory of God will be made known to others through us.
