Easter Wk 7th: Tuesday,  Tuesday, 15th May,2018  (Jn 17:1-7)

Dear Friend in the Lord,

Glorifying God: In today’s Gospel, Jesus prays, “Father, glorify Your Son so that Your Son may glorify You.” We are all created by God our Father-Creator, in His image.  The essence of our being is to worship and glorify God, who is the Source of all existence: universe, world and human beings.  Let us pray for the wisdom to glorify God daily in our lives.

Fr Philip Heng, S.J

Jesus raised his eyes to heaven and said: ‘Father, the hour has come: glorify your Son so that your Son may glorify you; so that, just as you have given him power over all humanity, he may give eternal life to all those you have entrusted to him. And eternal life is this: to know you, the only true God, and Jesus Christ whom you have sent.

‘I have glorified you on earth by finishing the work that you gave me to do. Now, Father, glorify me with that glory I had with you before ever the world existed. I have revealed your name to those whom you took from the world to give me. They were yours and you gave them to me, and they have kept your word. Now at last they have recognised that all you have given me comes from you.’

TODAY'S POINTERS ON GOD'S WORD
As you read the passage what words, phases or meanings caught your attention?

  • As the Good Shepherd, Jesus prayed to His Father for the needs of His disciples (sheep) especially that they may gain eternal salvation.

  • Jesus prayed to the Father in very personal and intimate ways.  We too should pray with our hearts and not only with our lips and minds. This is so that we will be more receptive towards encountering Our Lord in personal and intimate ways.

  • In whatever we do, we should always try to be like Jesus.  He constantly focuses His attention on living and serving for the greater glory of God.
