Dear Friend in the Lord,

Empowerment - Spirit: In today’s Gospel, Jesus empowered His twelve disciples to cure all kinds of diseases and illnesses.  If our hearts are united with Jesus and are able to relate to Him personally and intimately, we too will be able to sense His Spirit working through us, in His Name, to bring cure to others.

Fr Philip Heng, S.J

Jesus summoned his twelve disciples and gave them authority over unclean spirits with power to drive them out and to cure all kinds of disease and all kinds of illness.

These are the names of the twelve apostles: first, Simon who is known as Peter, and his brother Andrew; James the son of Zebedee, and his brother John; Philip and Bartholomew; Thomas, and Matthew the tax collector; James the son of Alphaeus, and Thaddaeus; Simon the Zealot and Judas Iscariot, who was also his betrayer.

These twelve Jesus sent out, instructing them as follows: ‘Do not make your way to gentile territory, and do not enter any Samaritan town; go instead to the lost sheep of the House of Israel. And as you go, proclaim that the kingdom of Heaven is close at hand.’

TODAY'S POINTERS ON GOD'S WORD
As you read the passage what words, phases or meanings caught your attention?

  • The Israelites were the “Chosen” race of God and Jesus’ Good News of salvation was first offered to them.

  • However, when the Israelites rejected the Good News in spite of Jesus and His apostles tried very hard to preach to them. The Good News was then offered to the others - the Gentiles.

  • Salvation is for all peoples and not only for our private salvation.  We are very privileged to receive this gift from God.  Therefore do not take it for granted; value it as your most precious gift and then pray for the grace to have the passion to share it with others.
