Daily Word Of God
Luke 11:14-20, 23
Jesus was casting out a devil and it was dumb; and it happened that when the devil had gone out the dumb man spoke, and the people were amazed. But some of them said, ‘It is through Beelzebul, the prince of devils, that he casts devils out.’ Others asked him, as a test, for a sign from heaven; but, knowing what they were thinking, he said to them,
‘Every kingdom divided against itself is heading for ruin, and a household divided against itself collapses. So, too, with Satan: if he is divided against himself, how can his kingdom stand? – since you assert that it is through Beelzebul that I cast out devils. Now if it is through Beelzebul that I cast out devils, through whom do your own experts cast them out? Let them be your judges, then. But if it is through the finger of God that I cast out devils, then know that the kingdom of God has overtaken you.
‘He who is not with me is against me; and he who does not gather with me scatters.’
Today's Pointers on God's Word
As you read the passage what words, phases or meanings caught your attention?
- When we are confused and in pain, we are not our “true self”, we may even condemn Jesus, like the people in today’s Gospel.
- Thus, Jesus cautions us to look into our hearts today. Do we see a heart that is divided or one that is united with the Lord? Face the truth of yourself honestly and courageously.
- Only when we are honest with ourselves can God’s graces heal and strengthen us in His ways. A heart that is closed to God’s graces will not find the deep peace that God longs to give us.
