Lord, help us to live inspiriing lives so as to lead others to seek You
Feast of Saints Philip and James, Apostles : Tuesday 3rd May 2022
1 Cor. 15:1-8; Ps. 18:2-3,4-5;
Jn. 14:6-14 (Ps Wk III)
There are moments when we feel lost and confused, searching for meaning, purpose, and value in our lives, mainly when triggered by a significant event such as psychological trauma, retrenchment, separation, the death of a loved one or a life-threatening experience.
Jesus’ response to Thomas: “I am the Way, the Truth, and the Life” and “I am in the Father, and the Father is in me’, reveals who He is. Through His words and deeds, Jesus desires to draw us deeper into the heart of God, who offers us eternal life. As we profess our faith in Christ, we are in union with God, the Father. This revelation calms the fear and tumult within our soul, filling us with a deep sense of peace and hope.
Today we celebrate the feast of St Philip and St James, son of Alpheus, also known as St James the Lesser. These two Apostles, together with St Thomas, were bold enough to ask Jesus difficult questions about their faith so as to gain a better understanding of who Jesus was. Their intimate relationship with Jesus enabled them to follow Him faithfully, willing to suffer and die in martyrdom for the sake of making Jesus known and loved.
As we partake in the same evangelising mission that the Lord has entrusted to His disciples, we are challenged to be the beacons of light and hope to those who are lost, inspiring people to seek the Lord and find grace and mercy with God alone.
Lord, may Your name be praised through all the earth.
