Daily Word Of God
Luke 11:37-41
Jesus had just finished speaking when a Pharisee invited him to dine at his house. He went in and sat down at table. The Pharisee saw this and was surprised that he had not first washed before the meal.
But the Lord said to him, ‘Oh, you Pharisees! You clean the outside of cup and plate, while inside yourselves you are filled with extortion and wickedness. Fools! Did not he who made the outside make the inside too? Instead, give alms from what you have and then everything will be clean for you.’
Today's Pointers on God's Word
As you read the passage what words, phases or meanings caught your attention?
- The Pharisees in today’s Gospel were preoccupied with the keeping the external rituals of cleanliness but were not aware that their interior spirit was filled with guilt of injustice and immorality.
- Are we guilty of similar inconsistencies or even hypocrisies in our daily living? Jesus is challenging us to be more authentic in the way we live for it is God whom we offend when we sin.
- Ponder on any area of your life that you are “guilty” or anxious about and pray for strength to live a more authentic and Christ-like life.
