Daily Word Of God
Mark 5:2, 6b-10,12-13,16-17
When Jesus disembarked, a man with an unclean spirit at once came out from the tombs towards him and fell at his feet and shouted at the top of his voice, ‘What do you want with me, Jesus, son of the Most High God? In God’s name do not torture me!’ For Jesus had been saying to him, ‘Come out of the man, unclean spirit.’ Then he asked, ‘What is your name?’
He answered, ‘My name is Legion, for there are many of us.’ And he begged him earnestly not to send them out of the district. The unclean spirits begged him, ‘Send us to the pigs, let us go into them.’ So he gave them leave. With that, the unclean spirits came out and went into the pigs, and the herd of about two thousand pigs charged down the cliff into the lake, and there they were drowned.
And those who had witnessed it reported what had happened to the demoniac and what had become of the pigs. Then they began to implore Jesus to leave their neighbourhood.
Today's Pointers on God's Word
As you read the passage what words, phases or meanings caught your attention?
- Evil spirits are all around us and pervade all aspects of life in the world. However, we should also remember that the Spirit of the Risen Christ has conquered these evil spirits in the world too.
- Evil spirits are terrified of the Spirit of Jesus and anything that is Christ-like. Thus, when we live Christ-like lives, evil spirits will keep “clear” of us.
- How often do we value the gift of being able to receive Christ Himself at Holy Communion during Mass? With Jesus in our hearts, He will dispel all evils and strengthen us against any harm that may come to us.
