Lord, help us to remember that we are beloved children of God Our Father
15th Week in Ordinary Time : Wednesday 19th July 2023
Ex. 3:1-6,9-12; Ps. 102:1-2,3-4,6-7;
Mt. 11:25-27 (Ps. Wk. III)
Biblical scholars agree that the Gospel passage reads more like John’s Gospel than from the Synoptics. In his Gospel, John speaks more deeply of the intimate relationship between Jesus and His Father in Heaven.
Jesus expresses Himself in negative sentences: “No one knows the Son but the Father, and no one knows the Father but the Son – and anyone to whom the Son wishes to reveal Him.”
Nevertheless, we can hear in Jesus’ words several promises: it is possible to know God the Father, not directly in this world but through Jesus’ earthly life and ministry. Furthermore, we can be sure that Jesus does wish to reveal the Father to us. This knowledge is not merely about God the Father or the doctrine concerning the Father. It is, instead, a matter of personal knowledge of ourselves as beloved children of the Father. To enter the Kingdom of Heaven, we must become like little children. This beautiful Gospel passage assures us that we can indeed be children who may enter the Kingdom of Heaven through Jesus and His revelation.
Lord Jesus, through Your continued life in the Church, teach us to know the Father.
