Daily Word Of God
John 2:13-19
When the time of the Jewish Passover was near Jesus went up to Jerusalem, and in the Temple he found people selling cattle and sheep and doves, and the money changers sitting there.
Making a whip out of cord, he drove them all out of the Temple, sheep and cattle as well, scattered the money changers’ coins, knocked their tables over and said to the dove sellers, ‘Take all this out of here and stop using my Father’s house as a market.’
Then his disciples remembered the words of scripture: I am eaten up with zeal for your house. The Jews intervened and said, ‘What sign can you show us that you should act like this?’ Jesus answered, ‘Destroy this Temple, and in three days I will raise it up.’
Today's Pointers on God's Word
As you read the passage what words, phases or meanings caught your attention?
- The Truth that Jesus preached, “Destroy this Temple, and in three days I will raise it up” will often be interpreted through secular and narrow ways.
- Such human and fallible interpretations are not of the divine inspirations, vision and plan of salvation that Jesus was alluding to. He was referring to His death and resurrection.
- Likewise, we are each called to be open to and be submissive to the divine Truth that is revealed to us through Jesus in the Gospel and the official Authority of the Church that has a wisdom that is beyond our personal knowledge and understanding. What is God saying to you?
