St Blaise, bishop & martyr, pray for us
4th Week in Ordinary Time (Year A) : Saturday 3rd February 2024
1 Kgs. 3:4-13; Ps. 118:9,-14;
Mk.6:30-34 (Ps. Wk. IV)
God appointed Solomon as king when his father, David, died. Solomon loved God and wanted to serve Him well. When he went to Gibeon to make a sacrifice to the Lord, God spoke to Solomon in a dream. God offered to give him whatever he wanted.
Solomon, in his wisdom, asked God to give him an understanding mind to discern between good and evil when he governed God’s people. God was pleased. What would you like God to give you?
Jesus sent the disciples out two by two to proclaim the good news and to heal the people. They had just returned and wanted to share their experiences with Him. Jesus gave them good advice that we can all follow – go to a quiet place and rest.
We all need to be in solitude in order to listen to what God is telling us. We do this by reading God’s Word and reflecting on it and by sharing our concerns with God and listening to what He tells us. It won’t be an audible voice but God will speak gently to our hearts. When we spend time with God, we recognize God’s voice.
Lord, help me to be still in Your presence.
