EASTER SUNDAY OF THE LORD’S RESURRECTION : 31st March 2024
Acts 10:34,37-43; Ps. 117:1-2,16-17,22-23; Col 3:1-4 or 1 Cor 5:6-8;
Jn 20:1-9 or Mk 16:1-7
John’s Gospel recounts that Christ Jesus’ resurrection is inseparable from the intent of God dwelling among us, albeit the contra events of the fall in the beautiful Eden. It is not a mere coincidence that Mary Magadala came to the tomb on the first day of the week when it was still dark. This is to demonstrate a shift from the dark into the light, from gloom to gladnes, and Mary Magdala’s great tiding of trust is conveyed to the disciples. Here, the venom of lies in ancient Eden is now replaced by factual report truthfully passed on by Mary Magdala to Peter and the beloved disciple. The stone has been removed from the tomb. The hidden love has been unfolding to the seeker. Christ the Lord is no more in the tomb.
Peter and the beloved disciple faced the bare facts of an open tomb, linen on the ground and the cloth over Jesus’ head rolled up in another place, yet Christ Jesus is not to be found. They failed to make the connection that what has been written about Christ Jesus is truly fulfilled. The Word, which is from the beginning with God and is God, is powerfully alive and nothing can bury or silence it. God is not defeated.
Easter is the core of our faith, death has no more sting but becomes a threshold to raise our thoughts to look on lasting things and not on transient attachments.
Dear Lord, we are Your Easter people, let us never be dismayed.
