Saints Philip and James, Apostles, pray for us
Fifth Week of Easter : Friday, 3rd May 2024
1 Cor. 15:1-8; Ps. 18:2-5;
Jn. 14:6-14 (Ps Wk I)
We are constantly bombarded with many versions of the truth. It is easy to be knocked off course and wander off in the wrong direction. St Paul called the Corinthian community back to the original proclamation of the truth to which they had given their hearts: Christ died for their sins, and rose from the dead, and there were many who could testify to this. Often it is as simple as remembering lives transformed by that first love, the moment when we truly felt God close to us. That will keep us on course.
Jesus told His disciples that this closeness is comprehended by recognising that He is the ‘Way, the Truth, and the Life.’ And though there are many ways to Jesus, He provided the pattern for godly living – humility, loving service, compassion, kindness, and obedience to God. Whoever conforms to that pattern is following the path. Jesus also promised that those who put their whole mind and heart into their relationship with Him would be empowered to do great things – even greater things than He had done – all because He was going to the Father. We have not unlocked the abilities that God has given us. For to have seen Jesus is to have seen the Father, such an encounter is tangible before our eyes. Maybe we need to return to that first love again – lives are transformed with the Lord.
Lord, help me to relish the truth of saintly lives in You.
