Lord, help us to become more authentic in our giving and receiving of gifts from You
Sixth Week of Easter : Saturday, 11th May 2024
Acts 18:23-28; Ps. 46:2-3, 8-10;
Jn. 16:23-28 (Ps Wk II)
How disposed are we to work with others in evangelisation? Paul, Apollos, Priscila and Aquila help us to reflect on the disposition and relationship we need to have. Apollos was knowledgeable in Scriptures and taught accurately about Jesus. However, his experience was limited to the Baptism of John. Both Priscilla and Aquila, co-workers with Paul in his missionary endeavour in Ephesus, who heard him, were impressed with his preaching in the synagogue. They shared with him further instructions of the Lord’s way. They supported Apollos. Apollos was humble enough to be further instructed in the faith. In Achaia, he became more courageous in refuting the opponents to the Scriptures that Jesus was the Christ. It is noticeable that Priscila and Aquila see Apollos as a collaborator rather than as a rival. We also see in Paul a great leader who empowers others to become leaders and collaborators in the Lord.
Does fraternal correction, nurturing and empowering others to become leaders, speaking words of encouragement and affirmation happen among us as missionary disciples?
Jesus said, “Amen, amen, I say to you, whatever you ask the Father in My name He will give you”. Such an act of giving and receiving is based on a relationship of love and trust. Let us never waiver to ask Jesus that, as missionary disciples, we become more authentic in our giving and receiving of the gifts of the Lord.
Lord, deepen our trust to see Your work in others and help us to imbibe You in giving and receiving.
