Dear Jesus, help me to turn to you in all situations!

13th Week in Ordinary Time (B) : Tuesday 2nd July 2024

Am 3:1-8, 4:11-12; Ps 5:5-8;
Mt 8:23-27 (Ps Wk I)

In Prophet Amos, we read with interest the images of ordinary day-to-day occurrences that have reasons behind them. For example, does the lion roar in the jungle if no prey has been found? Does the trumpet sound in the city without the populace becoming alarmed? Finally, Amos, as a prophet, says, “The Lord speaks: who can refuse to prophesy?” When the Lord commands, how can we refuse God’s commands?

Then in the Gospel, when the Lord commands the violent storm that broke over the lake to stop, the winds and sea become calm again. Nature obeys the commands of Jesus Who is God. This shows the great power of Jesus as God. The disciples who were in the boat with Him were terrified of the sudden storm. They went to Him, woke Him up from His sleep, and pleaded with Him to save them.

When we encounter fear, and face different kinds of challenges in our lives, do we have the reason and courage to go to Jesus for help? Or do we try to resolve the issues on our own and with our own strength which usually leaves us discouraged or disillusioned? We must go to Jesus to seek help. We have to be more naturally inclined to go to the Lord when needed, as Prophet Amos described the main reason for natural occurrences is having a purpose in God’s design.

Lord, let us see more and more that it is only natural for us to seek You.
