St. Peter Chrysologus, Bishop & Doctor, pray for us

17th Week in Ordinary Time (B) : Tuesday 30th July 2024

Jer 14:17-22; Ps 78:8-9, 11, 13;
Mt 13:36-43 (Ps Wk I)

Are we ready to be schooled by God daily? In the parable of the weeds,  God teaches us of the reality of the fake and superficial among us. From the early chapter of Genesis, we learn that we are created in God’s image. It inherently implies that everyone was intended for Good. We are placed in the world to grow as a good seed. Yet, as we journeyed through life day by day, sins enticed our hearts to other superficial good. None of us is exempted from the temptation to be enticed by superficiality and fall into sin. The question, however, is this: how long are we allowing a particular sin to disillusion us?

Jesus reminded us: “He who has ears, let him hear.” This exhortation reminds us to be aware of the original goodness of God in our lives. For us to become good seeds, not just at the start but till the end, not only for ourselves but for others, it is necessary to examine each day God’s providence for us, share God’s blessing with the needy and infirm people. Examining our life each day helps us to expose the fake surrounding us. Though we are impatient in allowing the wheat and weed to grow together, let God school us in His ways. Are we inclined to devote more on reaping a worthy harvest or vain illusions?

Lord, teach us to know the real from the fake, so that others will see our genuine love of You.
