Daily Word Of God
Matthew 8:18-22
When Jesus saw the crowd all about him he gave orders to leave for the other side. One of the scribes then came up and said to him, ‘Master, I will follow you wherever you go.’ Jesus said, ‘Foxes have holes and the birds of the air have nests, but the Son of man has nowhere to lay his head.’
Another man, one of the disciples, said to him, ‘Lord, let me go and bury my father first.’ But Jesus said, ‘Follow me, and leave the dead to bury their dead.’
Today's Pointers on God's Word
As you read the passage what words, phases or meanings caught your attention?
- We all want to be followers of Christ. Jesus cautions us that we would be like Him, where “the Son of Man has nowhere to lay his head”. Thus we should be prepared to live spartanly and serve God’s Kingdom selflessly.
- We also need to serve God single-mindedly and be detached from family and all relationships that we value. God must be our top priority and the centre of everything we do and live for.
- When we choose to live and serve in this manner, God will send us His Spirit and give us all the graces we need; He will never let us down. How willing are we to say “yes” to the Lord?
