Daily Word Of God

Luke 6:39-42

Jesus told a parable to his disciples, ‘Can one blind man guide another? Surely both will fall into a pit?  The disciple is not superior to his teacher; but fully trained disciple will always be like teacher. Why do you observe the splinter in your brother’s eye and never notice the plank in your own?

‘How can you say to your brother, “Brother, let me take out the splinter that is in your eye,” when you cannot see plank in your own? Hypocrite! Take the plank out of your own eye first, and then you will see clearly enough to take out the splinter that is in your brother’s eye.’

Today's Pointers on God's Word

As you read the passage what words, phases or meanings caught your attention?

  • A blind person cannot lead another person as he does not have sight.  In today’s Gospel, Jesus is pointing out to us that we are often judgmental towards others, when we are blind to our own faults.

  • As followers of Christ we are each challenged to be more Christ-like. We are called to put on the “eyes of Christ” if we want to love others more wholeheartedly.

  • Pray for the grace of humility to learn to praise rather than to criticize; to sympathize rather than to discourage; to build rather than to destroy and to think of people at their best rather than at their worst.
