  • FOURTH WEEK OF ADVENT (C) : Tuesday 24th December 2024

Lord God, thank you for being a Father to me, and please guide me safely to eternal joy!

FOURTH WEEK OF ADVENT (C) : Tuesday 24th December 2024

2 Sam 7:1-5, 8-12, 14, 16;
Ps. 88:2-5, 27, 29; Lk 1:67-79
(Ps. Wk. IV)

“It is the Lord who will make you a house.” The
Lord, through Prophet Nathan, assures King David of
his dwelling, the future kingdom depends much on His
providence and not human ability. God established His
sovereignty by reminding King David that like a Father,
God brought him up from the pasture and made him
prince, but he will die while God remains. Realising
this, David sang a hymn of blessings to the Lord.

At the holiest of holy spaces, Zechariah the priest
encountered the archangel Gabriel’s good news that his
wife Elizabeth would bear him a son, who would be a
great prophet to herald the people prepared for the Lord.
So overwhelmed by doubt because he and Elizabeth
were old, he was speechless. However, Zechariah’s
tongue loosened at the birth of his son John. He sang a
hymn of praise to God who had fulfilled the promise to
redeem His people. The God of the covenant restores
their confidence in waiting! The Lord from on high will
take on humanity’s clothing and live among His
creation; He will dispel the darkness of sin and death.

Zechariah’s newborn child, John, is to herald the
Lord’s coming! Every child is a herald to the coming of
God’s kingdom. God, through Prophet Nathan says, “I
will be a Father to him.” On the eve of Christmas, I am
assured of a Fatherly care of a new tomorrow.

Lord God, thank you for being a Father to me, and please guide me safely to eternal joy!
