Daily Word Of God

Luke 6:36-38

Jesus said to his disciples: ‘Be compassionate just as your Father is compassionate. Do not judge, and you will not be judged; do not condemn, and you will not be condemned; forgive, and you will be forgiven.

‘Give, and there will be gifts for you: a full measure, pressed down, shaken together, and overflowing, will be poured into your lap; because the standard you use will be the standard used for you.’

Today's Pointers on God's Word

As you read the passage what words, phases or meanings caught your attention?

  • Jesus teaches us the need to forgive others in order to receive God’s forgiveness.  If we do not forgive others, then our hearts are not truly repentant for the harm that we have caused.

  • If we are not repentant, likewise we cannot be genuinely receptive to God’s forgiveness.

  • This teaching of Jesus reminds us that God’s Justice also cares for and respects the rights of the people whom we have caused pain.  God wants us to reach out to these people and be reconciled with them.  Our faith in God must bring peace into our relationships with others.
