Daily Word Of God

Luke 13:22-25a, 29-30

Through towns and villages Jesus went teaching, making his way to Jerusalem. Someone said to him, ‘Sir, will there be only a few saved?’ He said to them, ‘Try your hardest to enter by the narrow door, because, I tell you, many will try to enter and will not succeed.

‘Once the master of the house has got up and locked the door, you may find yourself standing outside knocking on the door. And people from east and west, from north and south, will come and sit down at the feast in the kingdom of God.

‘Look, there are those now last who will be first, and those now first who will be last.’

Today's Pointers on God's Word

As you read the passage what words, phases or meanings caught your attention?

  • The Kingdom of God does not belong solely to a restricted group of people who “profess” that they believe in Jesus as their Saviour. The quality of our “belief” depends on how Christ-like our daily living is.

  • In today’s Gospel, Jesus is asserting that we should not take our faith for granted. Instead, we are all challenged to nurture our faith, hope and love for our Lord in our daily living.

  • Jesus is also challenging us not to be self-righteous and judgmental about others. Let God be the judge. Just focus ourselves on becoming more authentic disciples of the Lord.
