Daily Word Of God

Luke 17:1-6

Jesus said to his disciples, ‘Causes of falling are sure to come, but alas for the one through whom they occur! It would be better for such a person to be thrown into the sea with a millstone round the neck than to be the downfall of a single one of these little ones. Keep watch on yourselves! ‘If your brother does something wrong, rebuke him and, if he is sorry, forgive him. And if he wrongs you seven times a day and seven times comes back to you and says, “I am sorry,” you must forgive him.’

The apostles said to the Lord, ‘Increase our faith.’ The Lord replied, ‘If you had faith like a mustard seed you could say to this mulberry tree, “Be uprooted and planted in the sea,” and it would obey you.

Today's Pointers on God's Word

As you read the passage what words, phases or meanings caught your attention?

  • Jesus reminds us that forgiveness must never be temporary but continuous. We are to forgive no matter how much and how often we have been wronged. Jesus Himself forgave those who condemned and crucified Him.

  • This teaching of Jesus seems to be humanly impossible. That is why we must turn to God to increase our faith in Him. When we learn to turn to God, nothing is impossible especially in forgiveness.

  • The more often we are able to forgive in Jesus’ Name, the “easier” it is to forgive. Pray for the divine strength to be Christ-like.
