Daily Word Of God
Matthew 11:2-6, 7a, 10-11
John in his prison had heard what Christ was doing and he sent his disciples to ask him, ‘Are you the one who is to come, or are we to expect someone else?’ Jesus answered, ‘Go back and tell John what you hear and see; the blind see again, and the lame walk, those suffering from virulent skin-diseases are cleansed, and the deaf hear, the dead are raised to life and the good news is proclaimed to the poor; and blessed is anyone who does not find me a cause of falling.’
Jesus began to talk to the people about John, ‘He is the one of whom scripture says: Look, I am going to send my messenger in front of you to prepare your way before you. In truth I tell you, of all the children born to women, there has never been anyone greater than John the Baptist; yet the least in the kingdom of Heaven is greater than he.’
Today's Pointers on God's Word
As you read the passage what words, phases or meanings caught your attention?
- Jesus, the Messiah began His Ministry with performing miraculous healings and the proclamation of the Good News of Salvation. Both go hand-in-hand.
- John the Baptist’s role in the history of salvation was to prepare people’s heart to accept Jesus as the Messiah. Our roles as baptized Christians are to prepare, proclaim and witness to Christ’ Truth.
- During this Advent how may we prepare our hearts for the peoples in our homes, at our work and amongst our friends to receive Jesus more fully? Ponder on this challenge in your prayer daily.
