Daily Word Of God

Luke 9:22-25

Jesus said to his disciples, ‘The Son of man is destined to suffer grievously, to be rejected by the elders and chief priests and scribes and to be put to death, and to be raised up on the third day.’

Then, speaking to all, he said, ‘If anyone wants to be a follower of mine, let him renounce himself and take up his cross every day and follow me. For anyone who wants to save his life will lose it; but anyone who loses his life for my sake, will save it. What gain, then is it for a man to have won the whole world and to have lost or ruin his very self?’

Today's Pointers on God's Word

As you read the passage what words, phases or meanings caught your attention?

  • All of us have pains and trials in life; so did Jesus. However, we often fail to see in them the positive dimension to these pains and trials of life. Try to perceive them as “blessings” in our lives.

  • Through our pains and trials of life, we learn to rely more fully on God because we realize how finite and helpless our human nature is. We also learn to be more compassionate towards others.

  • Let us pray that when things do not go our way, we should not despair and feel discouraged in our endeavours. We should remember that God is always there for us.
