Daily Word Of God
Luke 11:14-18a, 20, 23
Jesus was casting out a devil and it was dumb; and it happened that when the devil had gone out the dumb man spoke, and the people were amazed. But some of them said, ‘It is through Beelzebul, the prince of devils, that he casts out devils.’ Others asked him, as a test, for a sign from heaven; but, knowing what they were thinking, he said to them,
‘Every kingdom divided against itself is heading for ruin, and a household divided against itself collapses. So, too, with Satan: if he is divided against himself, how can his kingdom stand?- since you assert it is through Beelzebul that I cast out devils. But if it is through the finger of God that I cast out devils, then know that the kingdom of God has overtaken you.
‘He who is not with me is against me; and he who does not gather with me scatters.’
Today's Pointers on God's Word
As you read the passage what words, phases or meanings caught your attention?
- Jesus had driven a devil out of a dumb man. Instead of being moved by the divine act and be drawn to faith in Jesus as our Saviour, the Jews remained blind and chose to interpret the event as demonic.
- How positive are we in interpreting the good that people do and the happy events that happen in our daily living? If we cannot be positive we may cause dissention and division in relationships and in the community.
- Pray for the grace of the Spirit to be an instrument of peace, truth and love to others in our daily living. Be Christ to others at all times by becoming more fully aware that you are the ambassador of His Good News.
