Daily Word Of God

Luke 9:28b-32, 33b-35

Jesus took with him Peter, John and James and went up the mountain to pray. And it happened that, as he was praying, the aspect of his face was changed and his clothing became sparkling white. And suddenly there were two men talking to him; they were Moses and Elijah appearing in glory, and they were speaking of his passing which he was to accomplish in Jerusalem.

Peter and his companions were heavy with sleep, but they woke up and saw his glory and the two men standing with him. Peter said to Jesus, ‘Master, it is wonderful for us to be here; so let us make three shelters, one for you, one for Moses and one for Elijah.’ He did not know what he was saying. As he was saying this, a cloud came and covered them with shadow; and when they went into the cloud the disciples were afraid. And a voice came from the cloud saying, ‘This is my Son, the Chosen One. Listen to him.’

Today's Pointers on God's Word

As you read the passage what words, phases or meanings caught your attention?

  • In the Transfiguration, the Glory of God encompasses the past, present and future – it is also eternal.

  • We too are invited to participate in this “glory of God”. These are moments when we experience certain problems in a new hopeful light that presents a “solution” and view that is clearly beyond human logical concoction.

  • Pray for the grace to continue to be receptive to this “glory” that God wants to give us in our daily living especially when we find ourselves in helpless and hopeless situations.
