Daily Word Of God

Matthew 10:16-20, 22

Jesus instructed the Twelve as follows: ‘Remember, I am sending you out like sheep among wolves; so be cunning as serpents and yet as harmless as doves.

‘Beware of men: they will hand you over to sanhedrins and scourge you in their synagogues. You will be brought before governors and kings for my sake, to bear witness before them and the pagans. But when you are handed over, do not worry about how to speak or what to say; what you are to say will be given to you when the time comes, because it is not you who will be speaking; the Spirit of your Father will be speaking in you.

‘You will be hated by all on account of my name; but the man who stands firm to the end will be saved.’

Today's Pointers on God's Word

As you read the passage what words, phases or meanings caught your attention?

  • Jesus cautioned His Apostles of the dangers they might face as they go out to preach the Good News. When we are called to be engaged in God’s mission to make His Good News known, we are not to be distracted by the evil ways of the world.

  • When we are being challenged to avoid these evils ways, we must remain as “innocent” as doves by allowing the Holy Spirit to lead and guide us at all times.

  • The Holy Spirit will always be there as our “weapon” to fight all the odds and opposition of the Good News of salvation. In the end, God’s Will  always prevails; have faith and trust in God.
