Daily Word Of God
Matthew 13:1-9
Jesus left the house and sat by the lakeside, but such large crowds gathered round him that he got into a boat and sat there. The people all stood on the shore, and he told them many things in parables.
He said, ‘Listen, a sower went out to sow. As he sowed, some seeds fell on the edge of the path, and the birds came and ate them up. Others fell on patches of rock where they found little soil and sprang up at once, because there was no depth of earth; but as soon as the sun came up they were scorched and, not having any roots, they withered away. Others fell among thorns, and the thorns grew up and choked them. Others fell on rich soil and produced their crop, some a hundredfold, some sixty, some thirty. Anyone who has ears should listen!’
Today's Pointers on God's Word
As you read the passage what words, phases or meanings caught your attention?
- There are different hearers of His word. There is the “prejudiced hearer” who is deaf to what he doesn’t want to hear. Then there is the “shallow hearer” who initially responds, but they lack long commitment.
- There is also the “dissipated hearer” who has many interests but lacks the ability to hear what is truly important. He is too busy doing too many things and too tired to do what is really needed of him.
- Then there is the “open minded hearer” who is never too proud nor too busy to learn and serve others. God gives the graces we need to grow in our love for Him through His Word. What type of “hearer” are we?
