Daily Word Of God
Matthew 8:18-22
When Jesus saw the great crowd all about him he gave orders to leave for the other side. One of the scribes then came up and said to him, ‘Master, I will follow you wherever you go.’ Jesus said, ‘Foxes have holes and the birds of the air have nests, but the Son of Man has nowhere to lay his head.’
Another man, one of the disciples, said to him, ‘Lord, let me go and bury my father first.’ But Jesus said, ‘Follow me, and leave the dead to bury their dead.’
Today's Pointers on God's Word
As you read the passage what words, phases or meanings caught your attention?
- Jesus tells us that when we decide to follow Him, we have to be aware that there are painful challenges. The sacrifices may demand us to leave our family and comfortable living.
- However, the consolation is to know that we are one with Jesus who is our anchor. He will be our security and strength, as He never fails us.
- Following Jesus is not for the “weak” and lukewarm. So, do we dare to follow Jesus and experience His strength and security in our lives? It is the initial “letting go” and trusts to take the decisive leap of faith that matters. After that, take one step at a time and allow the Lord to provide for our needs.
