Daily Word Of God
Matthew 9:18-19, 23-26
While Jesus was speaking, up came one of the officials, who bowed low in front of him and said, ‘My daughter has just died, but come and lay your hand on her and her life will be saved.’ Jesus rose and, with his disciples, followed him.
When Jesus reached the official’s house and saw the flute-players, with the crowd making a commotion, he said, ‘Get out of here; the little girl is not dead; she is asleep.’ And they laughed at him. But when the people had been turned out he went inside and took the little girl by the hand; and she stood up. And the news of this spread all round the countryside.
Today's Pointers on God's Word
As you read the passage what words, phases or meanings caught your attention?
- In today’s Gospel Jesus was moved to respond to the Roman official’s pleadings because he, not only approached Jesus with great humility and reverence; but also had great trust in Jesus’ divine powers.
- How do we relate to Jesus in our prayers and daily living? Do we have the same humility, reverence and trust that the Roman official had? Or are we demanding, arrogant and angry when our prayers are not answered the way we expect them to be?
- Pray for the grace to have the humility to accept that we are mere creatures in need of God’s Mercy and Love; without which we will all perish and be plunged into perdition.
