Daily Word Of God

Luke 11:1-4

Once Jesus was in a certain place praying, and when he had finished, one of his disciples said, ‘Lord, teach us to pray, just as John taught his disciples.’

He said to them, ‘Say this when you pray:

“Father, may your name be held holy,

your kingdom come;

give us each day our daily bread,

and forgive us our sins,

for we ourselves forgive each one who is in debt to us.

And do not put us to the test.’”

Today's Pointers on God's Word

As you read the passage what words, phases or meanings caught your attention?

  • Jesus teaches us to call God “our Father” when we pray to Him for our daily needs. Jesus wants us to relate to His Father personally and intimately and not as an abstract God.

  • In the “Our Father” prayer we should not expect God to give us everything we ask, but only what He, in His Wisdom, considers best for our wellbeing and salvation.

  • In this prayer Jesus also wants us to seek His Father’s Mercy for our sins, and likewise to treat others with compassion and be ready to forgive them. Are you willing to forgive as Jesus forgives?
