Daily Word Of God
Mark 10:28-31
‘What about us?’ Peter asked Jesus. ‘We have left everything and followed you.’ Jesus said, ‘In truth I tell you, there is no one who has left house, brothers, sisters, mother, father, children or land for my sake and for the sake of the gospel who will not receive a hundred times as much, houses, brothers, sisters, mothers, children and land — and persecutions too — now in this present time and, in the world to come, eternal life.
‘Many who are first will be last, and the last, first.’
Today's Pointers on God's Word
As you read the passage what words, phases or meanings caught your attention?
- Peter asked Jesus what he and the apostles could expect to gain from having left everything to follow Him because Jesus had told the rich man the day before to sell all he owned to follow Jesus.
- Instead of rebuking Peter, Jesus assured him that his reward will be both here on earth as well as in heaven. Those of us, who serve others out of love for the Lord, know very well the truth of Jesus’ promises.
- What have you left behind so as to be able to follow Jesus more closely? What do you find most difficult to “let go” of in your life? Pray for the grace of detachment in anything that prevents you from being “attached” to living and serving the Lord more wholeheartedly.
