Daily Word Of God
Luke 7:31-35
Jesus said to the people: ‘What comparison, then, can I find for the people of this generation? What are they like? They are like children shouting to one another while they sit in the market place: We played the pipes for you, and you wouldn’t dance; we sang dirges, and you wouldn’t cry.
‘For John the Baptist has come, not eating bread, not drinking wine, and you say, “He is possessed.” The Son of man has come, eating and drinking, and you say, “Look, a glutton and a drunkard, a friend of tax collectors and sinners.”
Yet wisdom is justified by all her children.’
Today's Pointers on God's Word
As you read the passage what words, phases or meanings caught your attention?
- We will be lying if what Jesus said in today’s Gospel does not describe our daily attitudes of wanting to be entertained and gratified instantly.
- Jesus is challenging us to change our attitude to become more Christ-like; to be the voice of hope and be life-giving to others, instead of seeing their faults.
- Do we have such dissatisfied attitudes as complaining that homilies are too long, adding negative comments of others to make situations worse and the like? Instead, can we begin to see the graces of God’s abundant blessings in all situations of our lives? What is God’s challenge for you?
