Daily Word Of God

Luke 11:1-4

Once Jesus was in a certain place praying, and when he had finished, one of his disciples said, ‘Lord, teach us to pray, as John taught his disciples.’ He said to them, ‘Say this when you pray:

“Father, may your name be held holy,

your kingdom come;

give us each day our daily bread,

and forgive us our sins,

for we ourselves forgive each one who is in debt to us.

And do not put us to the test.” ’

Today's Pointers on God's Word

As you read the passage what words, phases or meanings caught your attention?

  • Jesus teaches us to pray, calling God “Abba, Father” or my daddy; a term of endearment. Jesus wants us to relate to His Father with affection and intimacy; confident of His Merciful love as we are created anew as His sons and daughters at our Baptism.

  • God only gives us the very best and in great abundance, what we need for our salvation. However, He wills that we share all the blessings we receive from Him with others.  How do we live this daily?

  • Jesus also wants us to be as forgiving to others as He has been forgiving to us so unconditionally.  Have we also forgiven ourselves for the failures of our lives and do we still harbour hurts and bear grudges?  What is God saying to your heart?
