Daily Word Of God
Luke 14:12-14
Jesus said to his host, ‘When you give a lunch or a dinner, do not invite your friends or your brothers or your relations or rich neighbours, in case they invite you back and so repay you. No; when you have a party, invite the poor, the crippled, the lame, the blind; then you will be blessed, for they have no means to repay you and so you will be repaid when the upright rise again.’
Today's Pointers on God's Word
As you read the passage what words, phases or meanings caught your attention?
- Today’s Gospel teaches us that it is better to give than to receive. Then we will receive God’s blessings in great abundance.
- In this parable, Jesus tells us His criteria of the Lord’s guest list: those who cannot pay back! If we are able to love and care as Jesus has shown us through His Compassionate Love, then we will have the wisdom to live this truth.
- Jesus also teaches us that Christian charity goes further than merely giving and sharing what we have. It is about loving God more wholeheartedly through our deeds of generosity, service and compassion.
