Daily Word Of God

Luke 17:7-10

Jesus said to his disciples: ‘Which of you, with a servant ploughing or minding sheep, would say to him when he returned from the fields, “Come and have your meal at once”?  Would he not be more likely to say, “Get my supper ready; fasten your belt and wait on me while I eat and drink. You yourself can eat and drink afterwards”?

‘Must he be grateful to the servant for doing what he was told? So with you: when you have done all you have been told to do, say, “We are useless servants: we have done no more than our duty.” ’

Today's Pointers on God's Word

As you read the passage what words, phases or meanings caught your attention?

  • This passage tells us that God does not owe us anything. On the contrary, we should be grateful to Him for giving us so many graces and blessings.

  • We are God’s creatures in this world. We are merely God’s instruments and are called to praise, revere and serve Him. When we place more importance on ourselves than God, we become arrogant and proud.

  • If we realize how insignificant we are, we should become more humble and more grateful to God. Ponder on this truth.
