Daily Word Of God

Luke 6:39-42

Jesus told a parable to his disciples, ‘Can one blind man guide another? Surely both will fall into a pit?  The disciple is not superior to teacher; the fully trained disciple will always be like his teacher. Why do you observe the splinter in your brother’s eye and never notice the plank in your own?

‘How can you say to your brother, “Brother, let me take out that splinter that is in your eye,” when you cannot see the plank in your own? Hypocrite! Take the plank out of your own eye first, and then you will see clearly enough to take out the splinter that is in your brother’s eye.’

Today's Pointers on God's Word

As you read the passage what words, phases or meanings caught your attention?

  • Jesus’ parable of a person with a log in his eye while trying to remove a speck from another’s eye reminds us that we have more serious faults than those whom we criticize.

  • Self-righteousness is one of the most difficult sins to avoid because we tend to be judgmental of the faults of others but are blind to our own faults.

  • Pray for the grace of humility to admit our own faults and try to see the good in others. Learn to show more compassion to those who have wronged us.
