Daily Word Of God
Matthew 12:46-50
Jesus was speaking to the crowds when suddenly his mother and his brothers were standing outside and were anxious to have a word with him. Someone said to him: ‘Your mother and brothers are standing outside and want to speak to you.’
But to the man who told him this Jesus replied, ‘Who is my mother? Who are my brothers?’ And stretching out his hand towards his disciples he said, ‘Here are my mother and my brothers. Anyone who does the will of my Father in heaven is my brother and sister and mother.’
Today's Pointers on God's Word
As you read the passage what words, phases or meanings caught your attention?
- Relationships, especially with our family, are very important. However, in today’s Gospel, Jesus shows us that for Mary her relationship with God is the most important. Thus, she left mother, father and home to do God’s Will.
- We are often torn between God’s Will and our human will. Jesus saw Mary as His mother, but more importantly He considers Mary’s desire to fulfill His Father’s Will as central in His praises for Her.
- Mary is our model for putting God before all else. If we are able to live God’s Will fully, we will be able to touch people’s lives and draw them to God more effectively.
