Is there any idol in my life…a habit or relationship that competes with God to be the center of my life?
19th Week in Ordinary Time: Saturday 17th August 2019
Josh 24:1-13; Ps. 136(135):1,2,3,16,17,18,21,22,24;
Mt. 19:3-12 (Ps Wk III)
What is the biggest decision you have ever made? Are you happy with what you chose?
Today Joshua asks the people to make a very big decision. Whom will they worship? Are they willing to respect and serve God? Do they choose, instead, to worship the idols of the Egyptians, the Amorites or other peoples? If they choose God, are they willing to throw away the gods they served in the past? Joshua gives them freedom to choose.
The people choose God. They have seen personally how God brought them out of slavery and performed great signs before their eyes (Jos. 24:17). They have noticed God clearly at work in their lives…this leads them to trust God.
In the Gospel, Jesus blesses children. The kingdom of heaven belongs to them because they are open to God, they trust deeply in God.
Do I trust in God? Am I open to what God desires for my life? Have I ever noticed God at work in my life?
Is there any idol in my life…a habit or relationship that competes with God to be the center of my life?
In love, God honestly gives me freedom to choose . . . whom will I choose?
Lord, draw me closer to You. Help me to serve and love You above all.
