St Pius V, Pope
4th Week of Easter : Friday 30th April 2021
Acts 13:26-33; Ps. 2:6-7,8-9,10-11;
Jn. 14:1-6 (Ps Wk IV)
Paul was speaking in the synagogue to the Jewish community and to the Gentiles (the God-fearing) among them. Paul reminded the people of the events leading up to the death of Jesus — how the people of Jerusalem had failed to recognise Jesus and had asked Pilate to put him to death. But the good news was that God raised Jesus from the dead, and many had seen him after that. Paul reminded the people that Jesus’ death and resurrection was a fulfilment of what had been prophesied.
Jesus was comforting his disciples because they could not understand why they could not go where he was going. He explained that he would prepare a place for them, and then they could come to him. When Thomas asked how they would know the way, Jesus asserted, “I am the way and the truth and the life,” and that he was the only way to the Father. How do we interpret this? This statement proclaims Jesus’ total uniqueness. By following Jesus’ teachings and by being in relationship with Jesus, we will find the way to God the Father. We need to trust and believe.
Lord, help me to seek a deep relationship with Jesus that I may be a true follower.
