Are you open to listening to the guidance of the Holy Spirit?

6th Week of Easter : Wednesday 20th May 2020

Acts 17:15, 22--18:1; Ps. 149(148):1-2,11-12,
13,14; Jn. 16:12-15 (Ps Wk II)

Paul spoke to a large gathering of people in Athens in a way that appealed to their understanding and their religious beliefs. He urged them to consider an altar that he had seen bearing the inscription “To an unknown god” and proclaimed that this was the God who was the Creator of the universe.

Paul knew how to speak with the Athenian philosophers to entice them to want to know more about this Creator God. In the end, many refused to accept the resurrection, but some did believe. Paul understood the culture of the Athenians and witnessed to the faith by speaking to what they knew.

This is how we can witness to the faith as well – by understanding the people with whom we are sharing the Gospel.

Jesus again told the disciples that the Spirit would come once he was gone and would guide them to all truth. The Spirit would glorify Jesus for he would declare whatever Jesus told him to share with the disciples.

Jesus had been given everything that the Father had. Jesus and the Father were one. These truths are still the same today. Are we open to listening to the guidance of the Holy Spirit?

Lord, help me to listen and follow the guidance of the Holy Spirit.
