St. Ambrose, bishop & doctor, pray for us
1st Week of Advent (B) : Thursday 7th December 2023
Is 26:1-6; Ps. 117:1 and 8-9,19-21,25-27a;
Mt. 7:21,24-27 (Ps. Wk. I)
We cannot separate our faith, hope and love from daily life activities, for Scripture and the Church teach that these three virtues unite us most closely with God. In His preaching, Jesus several times alerts us to the necessity of integrating the faith we profess with the life we lead so that we really are people who do the will of our Father in Heaven, thus becoming true disciples of Jesus, united with Him in being the light of the world and the salt of the earth.
A French Catholic writer once expressed that there is only one major problem with this world: not enough saints! Needless to say, he was not speaking of the Church’s canonised saints. In his own words, he was echoing Jesus’ call to all of us to be people who are genuinely pleasing to God because our spiritual life, our daily life of faith, hope and love, is not a mere recital of words: “Lord, Lord” but an actual living out the Will of God, God’s love for our very broken world
Lord, through the revelation and consolation of the Gospel, strengthen the courage of our faith.
