St Josaphat, Bishop & Martyr, pray for us
32nd Week in Ordinary Time (B) : Tuesday, 12th November 2024
Tit 2:1-8, 11-14; Ps 36:3-4, 18, 23, 27, 29;
Lk 17:7-10 (Ps Wk IV)
The older generation are to set a good edifying example to the younger generation. On the other hand, the young should take the older folk as good examples. This is the advice given also by Titus in the first reading today. The seniors have a huge impact on those who are younger. The younger ones always look up to the older ones for self – respect and sound doctrines. Like the psalmist who encourages us to find our delight in the Lord, we practise self – control and follow propriety, God “will grant our heart’s desire.’’ And the Lord will always guide “the steps’’ of the righteous; and “make safe the path’’ of those God loves.
Humility and servanthood are virtues to be followed. Whether young or old, we learn to be humble in setting good examples by giving up everything that does not lead to God, including our worldly ambitions.
Furthermore, in the Gospel today, Jesus exhorts us to say that we are merely servants; for we have done all we have been told to do; we have done not more than our duty. This is a case of portraying an example of humility, of surrendering our independence – we look at ourselves as servants at the hands of God Who moves us as He wishes. When we show ourselves to others as servants of God, we encourage each other in faith and humility.
Lord, I want to be Your humble servant; make me follow Your great example as exemplified by Your numerous saints.
