Dear Lord, rule our hearts, let Your reign be mirrored in our actions
34th Week in Ordinary Time (B) – CHRIST THE KING : Sunday, 24th November 2024
Dan 7:13-14; Ps 92:1-2, 5;
Rev 1:5-8; Jn 18:33-37 (Ps Wk II)
How does Christ the King manifest His kingly rule in your life? Prophet Daniel envisioned a king beyond race and space boundaries. The Book of Apocalypse depicted Him to be the Alpha and the Omega. Today’s Gospel showcases Jesus’ trial in front of Pontius Pilate. It unfolds the reality of Jesus’ kingship. His kingship is not of earthly strength but divine endurance, for it is manifested in the crucifixion rather than in political dominance.
Though Jesus never answers Pilate’s question: “Are you the king of the Jews?” (v. 33) directly, He discloses His kingship by exposing lame human inferior judgment over His humane superiority. The human trial and the crucifixion showcase God’s glory and Jesus’ kingship of love. It shed light on the compassionate from the cruel.
Jesus tells Pilate that His kingship is not from this world (v. 36), and redresses him that He has come into the world to bear witness to the truth (v. 37). He is sent by God to bear witness to God, the Truth, as Son of God.
Those who accompany Jesus on the road to Calvary would see that Jesus’ manner of dying testifies to us His true identity and hoe He rules life as Son of God. The person who heeds the message of Jesus’ crucifixion sees a true humane person who should rule all hearts. It demands an answer to the question: are our hearts humane enough to stay on the side of Jesus, Who rules out all inferior accusations?
Dear Lord, rule our hearts, let Your reign be mirrored in our actions.
