ST ANDREW, APOSTLE, Pray for us
34th Week in Ordinary Time (B) : Saturday, 30th November 2024
Rom 10:9-18; Ps 18:2-5;
Mt 4:18-22 (Ps Wk II)
“COME and I will make you see a larger world than you can hold in your hands!” Perhaps this could be the invitation by Jesus to charm dreamers who seek a greener pasture. No matter at what stage of life we are at, Jesus’ invitation remains enchanting to us. How did God charm me? Pause for a moment. There must be a living signpost. Recall and reminisce how your major decisions were made with prayer and petitions to the Lord for clarity and trust.
A decisive journey as God’s faithful disciple can only begin when we hear living stories and fulfilling promises that have been attested to by a living person. A trustworthy person. St Andrew must have been regarded as a trustworthy person in his livelihood as a fisherman. This virtue of trust becomes a life changing testimony. Not just his life but for others too. He encountered Jesus before his brother, Simon Peter, and the two brothers. He directed them to Jesus. They must have first trusted his words. When Jesus called them, without hesitation they put down their net, left the fishing shore, and followed Jesus.
Jesus recognizes the good seeds of virtue in everyone. Such seeds must not be left dormant and die off. It will be good to ask ourselves, have our lives become signposts to others to know and follow Jesus? Let’s become like St. Andrew, who did not hesitate to trust Jesus who trusted him first.
Jesus, I thank You. Through St Andrew, I realise You first trusted me.
