  • ST JOHN, APOSTLE & EVANGELIST : Friday 27th December 2024

Lord, let Your love compel me to live as a beloved disciple in a malicious world

ST JOHN, APOSTLE & EVANGELIST : Friday 27th December 2024

1 Jn. 1:1-4; Ps. 96:1-2, 5-6, 11-12;
Jn. 20:2-8 (Ps. Wk. IV)

We could simply say that St John the Evangelist is
one who spreads the good news of salvation. However, it is
more compelling to say that John tells the good news with
everything he has to say about the love of God in Jesus
Christ.

The letter of St John was written to testify how
profoundly the love of Christ has elevated the way to
comprehend what was heard, seen, and touched, on the
person of Jesus Christ. The incident at the empty tomb
provides us with the intensity of John’s love for Jesus.
Running faster than Peter to the tomb could indicate the
beloved disciple’s love for Jesus. However, he let Peter go
in the tomb first to see only linen cloths on the ground,
separate from the cloth that wrapped Jesus’ head. The one
who touched their lives had left them with rolled linens.
From then on, such material signs are pertinent to the
beloved disciples that the love of Christ is traced in every
sphere of life. For, he entered and saw and believed.

To go forth to communicate what he has seen and
heard is a tremendous urgency for an evangelist of Christ.
As we continue the octave celebration of Jesus’ nativity,
we continue to reflect on our call to be attentive to the
message of the incarnation. This message is all about joy
and peace which is the result of God’s love for us. In our
attentiveness, let us all strive to be evangelists like the
beloved disciple.

Dear Lord, let Your love compel me to live as a beloved disciple in a malicious world.
