The relationship of Mary with us isn’t just any
relationship — it's sacred!
IMMACULATE CONCEPTION OF MARY : Monday, 9th December 2024
Gen 3: 9-15, 20; Ps. 97: 1-4;
Eph 1: 3-6, 11-12;
Lk 1: 26-38 (Ps.Wk. I)
Mary has always been a source of inspiration for the
Church. From the early Church’s experiences, we can also
say, “We see the relationship of Mary with us isn’t just any
relationship — it’s sacred.”
Perhaps you have been to Lourdes, the apparition of
Mary proclaims “I am the Immaculate Conception”. You
can imagine the indelible scene of the candlelight
procession in the night — thousands of pilgrims, from
places ranging from continents in the far east to the far
west, silently lifting their candles in prayer. Dozens of
veterans in wheelchairs line up in front, next to the Grotto
of Our Lady of Lourdes, for songs and prayers. To be able
to reflect on this deeply will give us a richer perspective.
That all this speaks not merely of healing but of the louder
message that so many souls yearning to be witness for
hope, so many souls imbued with the belief that the Virgin
Mary was lighting their way.
From Mary’s Magnificat, “The Lord has looked upon
His lowly servant. From this day all generations will call
me blessed: the Almighty has done great things for me, and
Holy is His Name”, we can say that instead of fear and
hiding from God, Mary accepted the Word of life with
great submission and humility. Her total being became a
sacred dwelling for the incarnation of the Word. One who
has virtuously abided the commands of God would be
sensitive to the wonderful working of God in her life.
Dear Lord, may we praise the marvels of Your
graciousness in Mary’s life.
