Lord, help me to always listen to the Your voice of God

3rd Week of Lent (C) : Thursday 27th March 2025

Jer 7:23-28; Ps 94 (95):1-2, 6-9; Lk 11:14-23 (Ps Wk III)

It has been an incessant bombardment to hear

people saying how rigid The Catholic Church is, that God is very authoritarian in a reading of Jeremiah’s passage. The command of God certainly reinforces this authoritative image. It gives us this impression but we need to reflect beyond what is superficial. However, God desires that the people hear Him and acknowledge that He is their God.

In our daily lives, from young until we are old, we find that we are constantly under the authority of someone. From parents to teachers to employers, we are always told that if we follow the rules and regulations that are laid out, all will be good for us. However rebellious we may be, we will still submit ourselves to rules because we want to reap some kind of benefit. It is a carrot and stick upbringing.

If we are able to follow the rules of the world, why is it so difficult to follow the voice of God? Perhaps it’s because we demand to see instant tangible rewards. When we constantly look for tangible rewards, we are torn between following the ways of God or our instant gratification. To look towards the things of Heaven, we will naturally follow the voice of God. Let us pray for docility of heart and to always listen to the voice of God in shaping our attitude.

Dear Lord, grant that I will give the best I can today, knowing that Your providence is never too far from me to enjoy.
