5th Week of Lent (C) : Saturday, 12th April 2025

Ez 37:21-28; Ps Jer 31:10-13; Jn 11:45-56 (Ps Wk I)

God takes the initiative to dwell in the heart of the sons of Israel. Prophet Ezekiel emphasized that it is the Lord who sanctifies His children Israel to let other nations know His purifying supremacy. Later, this vision became inclusive of all Gentiles. Hence, the idea of salvation for all was applied by the early Church community, relying on the exclamation by Prophet Isaiah that the Word of God would be conveyed to all nations. God would inscribe His Law in the hearts of humanity. The Lord God is so intimately connected to us as a loving Father through the revelation of Jesus, bountiful in love and mercy. His mandate to us is to proclaim the Good News to all creation.

However, this vision of God was a setback to the religious authorities then. Their credibility as channels to God’s revelation were dwindling. The chief priests and Pharisees plotted to exterminate Jesus totally. Knowing this threat, Jesus retreated to Ephraim. It was a very significant place to exclaim a clear reminder of the words of the Prophets, “Oh how can I give you up, Ephraim.” (Hosea 8:11) It was retracing an unbreakable bond and affection.

This salvation for all continues in the death of Jesus, sentenced by the antagonistic High Priests and Pharisaic mob. Yet, His impending death was deemed to be the Church’s greatest symbol of unity in gathering not just one tribe, but the whole world of tribes to bend their knees and adore Him.

Jesus, we adore You. By Your Holy Cross, You have redeemed the world.
